Montegrappa Extra Otto Sapphirus Fountain Pen (Limited Edition)
[MO-ISE8M34S]
The first-ever Montegrappa carved from stone combines mystique and engineering intrigue. It is made from lapis lazuli - a mineral mined in the mountains of Afghanistan for more than 6,000 years. Its deep-blue tone and golden flecks have made it an object of desire for many civilisations: the ancient Egyptians revered its healing properties and celestial appearance.

Lapis lazuli is described in ancient references as sapphirus or sapphire and is a material used in both traditional and contemporary jewellery. Preparing the stone for the Extra Otto Sapphirus required the development of special diamond-cutting techniques and a carbon-fibre core for strength and lightness.

The edition of 192 pieces represents the chapters comprising the Book of the Dead: works of ancient Egyptian literature describing transition to the afterlife. Rose gold-plated sterling silver trims feature the Montegrappa insignia between figures of the Eye of Horus and winged scarab.

The fountain pen has an 18 kt gold nib and uses the piston filling system.

About Montegrappa
Italy's first pen manufacturer, Montegrappa, began manufacturing pens in 1912 in its factory in Bassano del Grappa - a picturesque town along the Brenta River, which flows through Alpine foothills in northeastern Italy. Utilizing natural celluloid and precious metals, Montegrappa combines traditional methods such as die-casting with more recent innovations as low-relief engraving to form their precious art objects. Whether they use colors reminiscent of the master painters or ornamentation suggestive of Baroque palaces, the Italian heritage and romance is infused into each product.
