Jack Row Architect 18ct White Gold & Diamond Fountain Pen
[JR-ARCH03]
This exclusive limited edition writing instrument is designed and crafted by award winning British designer goldsmith, Jack Row. It is an enduring creation that is as much a piece of investable objet d抋rt or fine jewellery, as a luxury writing instrument.

The "Architect" collection draws inspiration from the iconic architecture that graces the modern skyline and pays homage to man's engineering and architectural achievements. This piece is directly inspired by London抯 30 St May抯 Axe, more commonly known as the 慓herkin, located in the heart of the financial district.

Individually made to order using a combination of traditional goldsmithing techniques and cutting-edge technology, it takes approximately eight weeks of painstaking craftsmanship to produce each limited edition piece.

The iconic profile is one of the many carefully engineered features which make the piece so unique in design, yet ergonomic in use. A striking solid 18 ct white gold filigree offers a fascinating aspect of negative space, viewed though its fine, mesh-like structure. This external form also creates a beautiful writing balance, embracing the hand of the user. Furthermore, it breaks a common institution in luxury writing instrument design where simply 'cigar' shaped barrels are the accepted norm.

Encased by the outer filigree, the inner barrel is skillfully turned from solid silver bullion, adding a reassuring weight and balance to the piece, confirming its value and luxurious nature. A British hallmark is laser engraved onto the inner barrel and legally guarantees the purity of the precious metal from which it is made, as well as bearing Jack Row抯 unique maker抯 mark. The inner barrel is protected and enhanced by a layer of 22ct hard gold and rhodium plate. When opened, the bold, textural quality of the thread adds a striking aesthetic feature and enables a delightful tactile experience when capping and uncapping the writing instrument.

Handpicked diamonds are individually set by hand into the ends of the cap and barrel of eacht writing instrument. In addition, 74 individually hand-set diamonds are arranged in a mesmerizing helictical pattern, around the central collar which houses the thread. This pattern has a striking, kinetic quality, the more it is observed.

Excellent writing comfort is provided by the fountain pen抯 18ct gold nib which is tipped with iridium to provide a fine and durable writing point. The designer抯 initials are engraved onto the top of each nib by cutting edge laser etching technology.

Production of the Jack Row Architect 18 ct White Gold & Diamond fountain pen is limited to 88 pieces, further enhancing its exclusivity and investible, collectable nature. Only visible when uncapped, the limited edition number is engraved discreetly on the section, between the nib and thread. It is no coincidence that the number "8" is considered the foremost symbol of fortune and good luck in Chinese culture.

Packaging and Accessories

An accompanying luxury display stand enables the piece to be exhibited as an objet d抋rt when not in use. The base of the stand is fashioned in solid oak, with two solid sterling silver cradles to provide subtle support for the piece. The writing instrument and the display stand are also accompanied by an international guarantee and limited edition certificate, cartridges, converter, special cleaning cloth, a use and maintenance guide and cotton inspection gloves. About Jack Row

Jack Row was born in Nottingham, England in 1985. An interest in art, design and technology developed from an early age, and he knew his career lay within the creative arts. After completing an apprenticeship in traditional goldsmithing, he began studying in 2005 at the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (BIAD) on a Higher National Diploma (HND) jewellery/silversmithing design course. Following successful graduation in 2007 and winning a number of awards, he entered employment for one of Europe's leading jewellery manufacturing companies, as a designer of bespoke products. Experimenting with the application of computer aided design (CAD) technology, Jack became fascinated with its potential for the creation of innovative, exciting products.
Returning to study at the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (BIAD) in 2008, he began to combine his traditional skills learned as an apprentice, with the innovative application of CAD and RP (Rapid-Prototyping) technologies. Graduating with a First-Class Honours degree a year later, Jack won the coveted British Jewellers Association prize for his precious metal fountain pen design concept. Six months later, he was awarded a Gold Medal prize by the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, one of the established Livery companies of London, for his 'Architect' prototype fountain pen, in sterling silver, based upon the original design concept.

Jack currently designs and crafts his writing instruments and accessories in his studio, based in the heart of Birmingham's historic Jewellery-Quarter. Jack is also a visiting lecturer at Birmingham City University, giving seminars to design students on a range academic and vocational courses.
